It's Time for a Change
We know from our own experience as public and private company CEOs, Senior Executives and corporate Board of Director members, that traditional investment banks are hard-wired to be "Deal Driven." For years the accepted model among most firms in the Investment Banking community has been to charge an outrageous amount of money for their services, spend the least amount of time on the account, and use the lowest-salary, least-experienced people possible to get a deal done.

Prior to winning an engagement, the big name investment banks are quite willing to assign senior partners to make impressive management presentations in an effort to bring in the deals. But once the engagement letter is signed and the client is secured, the project is most often staffed with an assortment of young MBAs, fresh out of college, who posses little or no management or real life experience. Many companies engaging with traditional Investment Banking firms have experienced this classic bait and switch.

So, while clients pay a premium for the supposed experience of the big name firms and their senior partners, they seldom get the expected benefit of their efforts or expertise.

Then, after the deal has been concluded, the traditional practice has been for the Investment Banking firm to collect the fee, reward the client for hiring them by paying for a fancy dinner and some expensive wine, and then move swiftly on to the next deal with little or no concern for the results that their clients achieve after the transaction.
